Velocity stack pt.2

 

Thank God for the collet chuck! With out it I would have never been able to get the cross slide close enough to the spindle as I needed to. This chuck by nature moves the work out about 3" past standard scroll type chucks. I made the "boring bar" insert holder today and finished up the rest of the stack. The inside was much more difficult to get a smooth finish on because the bar has flex by nature and causes chatter, so I braced it up some with my hand and got a decent finish. Ill take the small inconsistencies out with some emery tomorrow. 

Stack N' Bars

I made some Stainless bars and a spring perch for Rich's Sporty today. I fooled around with a new attachment method that has a really clean, trick look to it. I plan on doing a lot more like this in the future.

V-Band

Some more shots of fitting the carb with a v-band. I machined a bit of the inside of the clamp out then began the 45 minute welding process. In order to weld the carb body without it warping I ran about a 1/2" bead of weld, then cooled the unit with compressed air, then move to the other side and to the same.
In the end everything worked out great.

Air Box, V-Band, Lectron, Aluminum Octopus

Got to work on the XS's carburetor, air box and the intake manifold today until we ran out of 90's, unfortunately the supplier doesn't offer 180's in the size we needed so we got seven 90's and this is how far they got us. It'll be finished Wednesday when more material comes in. This bike is shaping up to be one tough looking little machine.
